Multi-Tenant Commercial Property Receives Extra Measure of Protection Against Theft

Michigan Glass Coatings Installs Armorcoat Safety Window Film

AUBURN HILLS, MI -- August 22, 2005
Windows often provide an easy entry point for intruders seeking illegal access into a building. Within a matter of minutes a burglar is able to smash a window, enter the vicinity, damage property, snatch valuables and leave undetected before security can arrive.

Vandalism had already become a problem for the Blain Group’s 20,600 square foot multi-tenant commercial property in Michigan. The 130 floor-to-ceiling window panes displayed expensive office equipment to passersby and tempted thieves after hours creating a security issue that could not be ignored. Intruders repeatedly broke the tempered windows, entered the building under cover of night and stole laptops and computers.

To secure extra protection for their property, the Blain Group turned to independent Armorcoat window film dealer Ed Golda of Michigan Glass Coatings. During a professional consultation, Golda discovered that the expansive panes were more than a security issue, they were also transmitting high amounts of uncomfortable solar heat, putting excessive strain on HVAC units to maintain a comfortable and consistent interior climate.

“My immediate suggestion was to install 6,150 square feet of Armorcoat 8 Mil Silver 35 to shield the storefronts against forced entry and keep out a high level of solar heat,” said Golda, who has over 25 years experience installing safety and solar window film. “The 8 Mil thickness and strong adhesive provides a 24-hour theft deterrent. Plus, the silver metals within the film reject approximately 43 percent of total solar energy and over 99 percent of damaging ultraviolet radiation, providing a more comfortable working environment and essentially lowers the building’s energy consumption.”

The true test of Armorcoat’s safety capabilities came when an attempted break-in was thwarted soon after the installation. The film’s 8 Mil thickness and strong adhesive collectively held the 10 shattered window panes together safely and securely in the frame. Armorcoat formed a firm barrier that did not give the perpetrator access inside, and without time on his side the intruder was forced to flee before attracting unwanted attention. Armorcoat 8 Mil Silver 35 proved itself as more than an excellent means of solar control, but as an indispensable measure of protection against intruders, theft and glass breakage.

Additionally, there was no need for costly emergency glass repair, since the building envelope was still tightly sealed. In this instance, the preventative benefit of Armorcoat safety film is obvious. When the perpetrator who broke these glass panes was unable to gain entry, he moved to an easier target – the unprotected commercial property next door.

Resilient, optically clear Armorcoat safety film helps hold shattered glass in place with an aggressive adhesive, deterring an intruder from gaining access. Armorcoat is made from only the highest quality materials, such as tough, high tensile polyester and ultra-strong mounting adhesives – available in thickness ranging from 4 to 14 Mil (.004” to .014”) and offered in clear and solar control versions. Stronger glass resilience can be achieved with attachment system options. Michigan Glass Coatings is located in Auburn Hills, Michigan at 1120 Doris Road, specializing in residential, commercial and safety film installations – (248) 364-6669.
