Safety Window Film Reduces Risk of Injury or Further Damage to Homes and Buildings
Largo, FL – September 11, 2003 Bekaert Specialty Films understands the devastation that a hurricane or tropical storm can wreak on homes, office buildings and lives. To help mitigate some of the destructive effects of these storms and protect people from injury, BSF has developed Armorcoat, a specialized film coating designed to help glass windows and doors withstand even hurricane-force winds.
Armorcoat is an optically clear, resilient barrier film that bonds to window and door glass. Its ultra-strong adhesive and durable composition help hold broken glass safely in place upon impact. The most common cause of damage during a hurricane is wind-borne objects that break glass and expose a structure's interior to the wind and rain of the storm. When professionally installed, Armorcoat can greatly reduce these types of losses. Armorcoat safety window film has been proven to improve the breakage resistance of windows and doors from both impact and the elements – keeping damaging debris, rain and wind out.
“There is no possible way we could have survived Hurricane Andrew, without the Armorcoat safety film,” stated hurricane survivor R. Gimenez. “Our family was hiding in the bathroom and when we came out, not one single window was shattered. All the other houses on the block, had damage to every one of their windows,"
Window film can provide this invisible barrier of protection at a very affordable price. Moreover, many installations can qualify for an insurance rebate, depending on the location of the home or building.
About Armorcoat Manufactured by the world leader in safety film, Bekaert Specialty Films, Armorcoat has been field tested for over 20 years, meeting impact requirements for some of the most stringent tests in the industry, such as Miami-Dade Protocol and Southern Building Code Congress International. Armorcoat is made from only the highest quality materials, including high-tensile polyester and ultra-strong mounting adhesives - available in thicknesses ranging from 4 to 14 Mil, with thicker films offering greater protection.
The ability of safety window film to hold broken glass in place can be greatly increased with the addition of an anchoring system that secures the film to the frame of the window during installation, using either metal battens or a caulking sealant. The additional anchoring system is highly recommended for coastal and commercial locations.
